Hennig Preserve (Saratoga PLAN)
The Hennig Preserve, owned and operated by Saratoga PLAN, is located on both sides of Centerline Road in the town of Providence. There are ten miles of well-marked trails and over 600 acres of natural and historical wonders. The preserve is criss-crossed by two vigorous creeks, Joby Creek and Cadman Creek, both bearing stone remnants of homesteads and mills important to area history. You’ll find cellar holes, the remains of charcoal pits and esker formations, evidence of the melting glaciers from the last ice age. There is a copper color to the water at the preserve and in many surrounding creeks because of the tannin stain from leaves that fall into it — the same tannin they once used to cure hides. The preserve is an ecological and historical gem – right in your backyard!
